Job Review: Financial Controller – Head Office at Frigoglass

Frigoglass, a leading company in manufacturing and distribution, is seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to join their team at their Lagos Head Office. This role is a critical part of the finance department and will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in reporting, and managing compliance with Nigerian financial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

As the Financial Controller, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of managing the company’s finance function to ensure the smooth operation of the financial team and accurate reporting. Below are the core duties:

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annually) in compliance with Nigerian financial regulations, IFRS, and group policies.
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify financial performance drivers and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and presentations for senior management and the Board of Directors.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:

  • Manage the annual budgeting process, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and accurate cost allocation.
  • Regularly update forecasts to reflect changes in market conditions, production costs, and operational efficiency.

Financial Controls & Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax regulations and corporate governance standards.
  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring they are completed on time and accurately.

Cost Management & Profitability Analysis:

  • Drive cost-saving initiatives to improve manufacturing efficiencies and overall profitability.
  • Collaborate with operations to analyze cost structures and suggest strategies for cost reduction.

Change Management & Business Transformation:

  • Support the company’s transformation initiatives by providing financial data and insights for decision-making.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and cost-saving strategies.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a collaborative culture of high performance.
  • Guide the team in developing their skills and advancing in their careers.

Strategic Business Partnering:

  • Act as a key partner to senior leadership, providing financial insights to aid strategic decision-making.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, such as operations and supply chain, to align financial goals with business objectives.

Qualifications & Experience

To succeed in this role, candidates must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 10–15 years of experience in financial management, with expertise in multinational settings and manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, Nigerian tax laws, and corporate governance.
  • Experience in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills; familiarity with Microsoft Navision Software is a plus.
