Overview of Malaria Consortium Nigeria

Malaria Consortium Nigeria is at the forefront of combating malaria in the country. The organization works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other key stakeholders to implement major malaria control programs such as:

  • Support to the National Malaria Control Programme (SuNMaP)
  • NetWorks
  • MAPS (Malaria Action Program for States)

With a focus on malaria prevention, treatment, and health system strengthening, Malaria Consortium is recruiting an LGA Field Assistant in Sokoto to support its Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) program.

Job Description: LGA Field Assistant

The LGA Field Assistant plays a crucial role in the execution of SMC activities at the LGA, health facility, and household levels. This position is responsible for:

  • Coordinating malaria intervention programs.
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of malaria prevention commodities.
  • Supervising and supporting Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Health Facility Workers (HFWs) in executing malaria treatments.
  • Liaising with LGA health officials and reporting program updates.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Implementation & Management (70%)

  • Assist in planning and executing SMC distribution programs across health facilities and communities.
  • Ensure the timely supply and distribution of antimalarial drugs and other essential commodities.
  • Supervise and monitor field teams to maintain high-quality service delivery.
  • Work closely with community mobilizers and health officers to enhance malaria awareness and participation.
  • Track program targets and ensure activities align with organizational goals.

2. Reporting & Data Quality Control (10%)

  • Review data collected from malaria treatment campaigns and ensure accuracy.
  • Provide updates to the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer and State Technical Officer (STO).
  • Ensure accurate reporting of stock levels and commodity usage.

3. Coordination & Representation (10%)

  • Collaborate with local Public Health Officers and community leaders for program effectiveness.
  • Attend LGA-level coordination and data validation meetings.

4. Administrative Support (10%)

  • Assist in planning stock management and malaria drug distribution.
  • Support finance officers in processing payments for field staff.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the State Technical Officer (STO).

Required Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

  • Minimum Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Nursing, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of field experience in healthcare, logistics, or NGO projects.
  • Fluent in English and Hausa (or other local languages).
  • Experience in drug supply management and M&E reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in training and supervising health workers.
  • Knowledge of malaria treatment protocols and community health programs.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments.
