Key Responsibilities of the Field Assistant

The Field Assistant will play a key role in ensuring the effective implementation of SMC activities at the local government area (LGA), health facilities, and community levels. Some of the major duties include:

1. SMC Program Implementation (70%)

  • Organizing and coordinating the timely distribution of malaria prevention treatments in communities.
  • Supervising community health workers (CHWs) and other field staff.
  • Monitoring the availability of SMC commodities to prevent shortages.
  • Ensuring that all health interventions follow approved protocols.
  • Engaging with local government stakeholders to ensure smooth program delivery.

2. Reporting & Data Quality Control (10%)

  • Reviewing distributors’ tally sheets and correcting errors.
  • Assisting the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer with data validation and quality checks.
  • Submitting periodic reports to keep stakeholders updated on program progress.

3. Coordination & Representation (10%)

  • Attending planning and coordination meetings at both LGA and community levels.
  • Supporting data validation meetings to ensure program effectiveness.

4. Administrative & Logistics Support (10%)

  • Assisting with the supply chain management of malaria prevention drugs.
  • Tracking the consumption of health commodities to maintain stock levels.
  • Supporting the Finance Officer in processing payments for distribution personnel.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

✔ Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Public Health, Nursing, Science, or Social Sciences.
✔ Minimum of 2 years of field experience in a similar role.
✔ Fluency in English, Hausa, and other local languages.
✔ Experience in drug/commodity supply management, M&E, and logistics.
✔ Ability to work collaboratively with government health workers, LGA staff, and community leaders.

Desirable:

✔ Experience in training, capacity building, and team leadership.
✔ Strong planning and organizational skills.
✔ Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
✔ Nigerian citizenship (a legal requirement).
