Malaria Consortium is currently recruiting for a Field Assistant – FCT to support the implementation of essential malaria control initiatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the fight against malaria, support health facilities, and help coordinate community-level activities in collaboration with local government and stakeholders.


Job Overview:

Malaria Consortium Nigeria is dedicated to reducing malaria-related deaths and cases across the country. With ongoing partnerships with the Ministry of Health and other key stakeholders, the organization leads significant malaria control projects including Support to the National Malaria Control Programme (SuNMaP), NetWorks, and MAPS. The Field Assistant – FCT will play a vital role in ensuring that Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) services are effectively delivered to communities, health facilities, and households in the FCT region.


Key Responsibilities:

Programme Implementation & Management (70%)

  • Support the implementation of SMC activities at the LGA level, including the delivery of commodities and supplies.
  • Coordinate with local government representatives and community stakeholders to ensure effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of malaria prevention programs.
  • Monitor the distribution of SMC commodities to ensure no stockouts and facilitate community mobilization activities for greater engagement.
  • Provide administrative support during training events for field partners such as health facility workers (HFW), supervisors, community health workers (CHWs), and community mobilizers.
  • Track program targets and oversee the timely implementation of planned activities to ensure objectives are met.
  • Ensure all activities align with program protocols and escalate any issues to the State Technical Officer (STO) for quick resolution.

Reporting & Data Quality Control (10%)

  • Review and correct distributors’ tally sheets, ensuring accurate data entry on relevant platforms.
  • Assist the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer in addressing data quality issues and ensure that discrepancies are promptly resolved.
  • Provide timely reports to keep the STO and State Project Manager updated on program progress at the LGA level.

Coordination & Representation (10%)

  • Organize and attend coordination meetings at the LGA and community levels to ensure alignment and smooth implementation of activities.
  • Represent the program at data validation meetings and provide feedback as necessary.

Administrative & Miscellaneous Duties (10%)

  • Develop individual and team action plans to ensure seamless collaboration and the achievement of treatment targets.
  • Contribute to stock planning and ensure that all health facilities release physical inventory of SMC commodities after each cycle.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • A minimum qualification of a diploma in Clinical Officer, Nursing, Social Science, Public Health, or a related field.
  • At least two years of field experience in a similar role, ideally in public health, community health, or malaria control programs.
  • Fluency in English and Hausa (or other local languages).
  • Hands-on experience in drug/commodity supply management, M&E, and logistics.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with local government, health facility workers, and community leaders.
  • Experience in quality supportive supervision and data management.

Desirable:

  • Experience in logistics, capacity building, and team management.
  • Previous work experience at the LGA level and with malaria control programs.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, even under stressful conditions.
  • A Nigerian citizen (required by law).
