Role Overview:

The LGA Field Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the implementation of seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) activities at the Local Government Area (LGA), health facilities, and household levels. This role involves coordinating with local government representatives and community stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of SMC services. Key Responsibilities:

As a Field Assistant, your main responsibilities will include:

  1. Programme Implementation, Treatment Tracking, and Management (70%)
    • Implementing SMC activities at the LGA level, ensuring timely distribution of commodities, community mobilization, and supervision of health workers and community health workers (CHWs).
    • Ensuring proper tracking of commodities and supplies to avoid stockouts and ensure accountability.
    • Supporting the training of field partners, including health facility workers (HFW), supervisors, and community mobilizers.
    • Monitoring and tracking program progress, ensuring all activities align with laid-out protocols, and providing timely feedback.
  2. Reporting & Data Quality Control (10%)
    • Reviewing and correcting distributors’ tally sheets and ensuring accurate data entry on relevant platforms.
    • Assisting the M&E Officer in resolving data quality queries and submitting detailed reports to project managers.
  3. Coordination and Representation (10%)
    • Coordinating and attending meetings at the LGA and community levels, ensuring smooth communication and planning.
    • Representing the organization in data validation and other key meetings.
  4. Administrative and Other Duties (10%)
    • Managing stock levels and supplies for SMC activities.
    • Developing action plans to ensure the achievement of treatment targets and smooth operations at SMC sites.
    • Assisting with any other administrative tasks as directed by the line manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • Minimum of a Clinical Officer, Nurse, or Public Health qualification (diploma level or higher).
    • At least two years of field experience in a related role.
    • Fluency in English and Hausa (or other local languages) is required.
    • Experience in drug/commodity supply management, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and logistics.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including LGA staff and community leaders.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in logistics, training, and capacity building.
    • Familiarity with working at the LGA level and with community-level health initiatives.
    • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, challenging environment.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Basic computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • Flexibility and ability to work as part of a team or independently.
